New homepage design to launch fall 2011

As some of you may have heard, we have a new homepage design coming this fall that will be launched in the web content management system (WCMS).  With this, we also have an updated design for faculty, department, school and support-unit websites – this design will also launch this fall in the WCMS.

New uWaterloo home page live

A new transitional uWaterloo home page has been launched and can be seen at uwaterloo.ca.

Features of the new home page

Some of the features of the new home page are the interactive panels for About Waterloo, Today at Waterloo, Faculties & Academics, and Offices & Services; a prominent photo that captures the uWaterloo experience; and a whole new look that aligns with the university's new visual identity.

Website title generator released for use with website phasing

As part of the website phasing being rolled out to campus websites, site maintainers were asked to adopt a common header which includes a title for every site. In order to meet the demand for website titles and to assist our site maintainers in updating their sites more quickly, we have launched a self-serve website title generator. WatIAM credentials are required to view and download generated titles.

University of Waterloo Web Phasing Plan

The Web Redesign project is excited to announce the release of the University of Waterloo Web Phasing Plan! The Phasing Plan is intended to enable website maintainers across the university to refresh their sites and adopt new branding within the current Common Look and Feel (CLF) template. By adopting a required common University of Waterloo header, this will assist in orienting website visitors during a time where there will not be a consistent design across campus.

What Does Your Waterloo Look Like?

The web redesign team is excited to be moving forward with the new uWaterloo website. However, to fully realize the amazing design, we need you, the uWaterloo community, to help us out.

A large part of the new homepage design is a photo feature. This image, which will change on a regular basis, is not supposed to be a marketing-quality picture. Rather, we want this picture to be an extension of what it’s like to be a part of uWaterloo, for the insider’s perspective.

Announcement: Web Redesign iPad Winner

The Web Redesign team would like to congratulate Cecilia Cotton, Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science for winning the Web Redesign usability study iPad contest.

A big thanks goes out to the over 700 staff, faculty, students and community members who completed a survey. The results of the usability tests will be published online this month.

A final round of usability testing will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

More Proposed Waterloo Site Designs

So, this past week has been an exciting and action-packed week for the web redesign team. We’ve had a lot exciting proposed designs come through to us from White Whale over the past week. We gave you a sneak peek of the homepage last week, and are excited to share with you more designs.

We are sharing with you proposed designs for: faculty, departments, offices, pathway pages, photo galleries, contact forms, and a text-heavy page.
